Abstract EN

The present paper deals with the concept of argumentation, its definitions, types, components and models.

The paper shows how persuasion can be used to fulfill the purposes of argumentation.

Based on Searle's (١٩٦٩) classification, the present paper analyzes pragmatically the types of speech acts.

As regards the analysis, the researcher adopts Toulmin (٢٠٠٣) model.

A pragmatic analysis of speech acts immediately follows, i.e.

below each category there is a pragmatic analysis of speech acts according to Searle's classification.

The datum of the analysis is an argumentative essay written by Aldous Huxley; the reasons behind choosing this essay, i.e.

"Words and Behaviour" is that it is the most famous one among the other writer's essays and it is associated with the name of the writer.

The researcher provides an example for each component of the model.

A table and a figure are also provided in order to summarize the whole results of the analysis.
