Statistical assessment of strength acceptance criteria in the Egyptian code of practice

Abstract EN

In this paper, a review of the statistical basis for analyzing the results of strength tests and their relation to the strength of the whole production is given.

The paper also, presented and discussed the strength acceptance criteria in the ECP, BS, and ACI codes.

The statistical interpretations of these criteria and the observed deficiencies in them have been highlighted.

A parametric study on the effects of sample standard deviation, sample size, probability of type (I) error and acceptable percentage of low test results on the required concrete sample average compressive test result have been conducted.

Based on the performed parametric study and the highlighted deficiencies in the current ECP strength acceptance criteria, the authors have proposed new criteria for accepting reinforced and plain concrete strength test results.
