Abstract EN

Pulmonary hydatid disease is prevalent in many parts of the world including Iraq.

In our small series of 6 patients [from sept.

2010 to sept.

2011].

All patients were diagnose with clinical and of the patients was 29 year [range..18-43].

All of them received 0ral albendazole 10 mg / kg / day after diagnosis.by applaying the principles of conventional surgery all patients underwent video assisted thoracoscopy as a minimally invasive technique.

Double lumen endotracheal intubation was utilized in all cases along with CO2 insufflation.

Complete thoracoscopic removal was successful in all cases with no conversion to open thoracotomy.

All of them showed rapid recovery except in one patient in whom prolonged intercostal drainage was present for 3 weeks.

The average of the procedure was 90 min and the average length of hospital stay was 8 days except case one which was discarged on day 21 due to prolonge air leak.

Follow up of 2-13 months.

All patients are asyptomatic and doing well.
