The present research reflects an endeavour to offer practical so- lutions to the problem associated with banking secrecy.

Included among such solutions are Islamic solutions as well.

Banking secrecy, asserts the present author, is essential as protective measure to both customers and banks.

It is also essential to perpetuate the viable integrity of money industry of some countries like Switzerland.

The present study provides an exhaustive exposition on banking secrecy.

In its preliminary passages, it incorporates its definition and its early historical setting.

In the subsequent pages, it amplifies banking secrecy as in voguein different countries.

All in all, there are three groups of countries that apply banking secrecy.

The first are absolute secrecy countries that protect the information of the customers.

Bahama and Cayman Islands are illustrative examples.

The second are limited secrecy countries that allow in their legislations some measures of interference in the bank affairs.

The third group of countries provide bank secrecy in their legislations but expect some waivers.

Italy, Egypt and Lebanon are striking examples.

The present study introduces some practical solutions to limit the repercussions stemming from banking secrecy.

In the conclusive section, the study offers Sharia stance on banking secrecy.
