Crop sequence experiments were conducted in farmer’s field duringWinter seasons 1997/98-2002/2003 at Elgeli and Alafoon areas in Khartoum State.

The objectives of the investigations were to study the effects of crop sequence on control of Orobanche ramosa and on yield of a subsequent tomato crop.

Infestation of Orobanche decreased by 37% at Elgeli under the crop sequence of onion-onion onion-tomato where tomato yield was increased by 38%.

At Alafoon crop sequence of onion-onion-onion/tomato and/or onion-alfalfaalfalfa- tomato decreased Orobanche infestation by (90-95%) and the yield of tomato was increased by 60%.

Crop sequences in the two locations, in addition to increase of tomato yield, decreased the Orobanche incidence, branching and seed production.
