Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This study was directed to improve non-uniformity of water distribution along furrow run.
Cut back concept was utilized to achieve this end by providing high initial inflow rate till it advance to furrow end then the inflow rate was reduced to one half.
An analysis of this process was made by reducing three initial inflow rates to final inflow rates of 1.1 lit/sec when water reaches 275, 220, 200 and 165m.
in Rahad Irrigation Scheme using randomized block design.
Another test was such that when the wetting front of advance reached the end of the furrow (275m), the flow was completely cut – of.
The effect of these practices on water application and distribution efficiencies was investigated.
The results showed that, the cut – back system increase both water application and distribution efficiencies as compared to traditional practices.
Water application efficiency increased from 60%, 50% and 52% by using traditional practices to 65%, 61% and 58% by using cut – back system for inflow rates 2.2, 1.9 and 1.7 lit/sec respectively.
Also, water distribution efficiency increased from 89%, 87% and 86% by using traditional practice to about 95%, 92% and 90% by using cut – back system for inflow rates 2.2, 1.9 and 1.7 lit/sec respectively.
Therefore, the study recommended to apply inflow cut back concept by using suitable mean (gated pipe or twin siphon tubes) to regulate
