Excavations conducted in Jerash by the Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration in Madaba, directed by the author, revealed a new basilical church adjacent to Genesius Church on the west.

The church was called by the team the Cross Church.

This discovery emphasises the importance of Jerash as a Christian centre in the Byzantine period.

The floor of the church was decorated with mosaics as well as marble and pavers.

Portions of the mosaic pavement underwent later repairs.

Glass mosaics were used outside the southern entrance of the church.

Another mosaic pavement dates to a late period.
