Abstract EN

Issues of crime prevention and community policing, which have been adopted by many countries throughout the world, are faced with more pressing problems that have had a negative impact on police strategies.

Illegal immigration, drug trafficking and terrorism, as well as budgetary problems, are giving way to more common community concerns.

The economic crisis that is affecting many police agencies has also led to cuts in training and the ability to keep up with new technology.

Nevertheless, without public support the police are at a disadvantage in coping with more common types of crime.

Further, many departments have placed a great emphasis on media relations as the key component of their crime prevention efforts.

A review of philosophical and practical approaches to community policing and crime prevention is important if police departments hope to meet public security issues in rapidly changing and complex environments.
