English Abstract
Different substrate concentration of 3, 4-dCBA were tested for biodegradation by Shigella sonnei.
The higher degradation percentage was obtained with 2mM concentration and the maximum degradation percentage of 3, 4-dCBA was accomplished after 20h of incubation.
The effect of temperatures of 25°C, 30°C and 37°C on the biodegradation of 3, 4-dCBA,The optimal degradation occured at 25°C.
The optimal for degradation were 25°C, pH8.
The degradation occur at 200µl inoculums size.
The carbon sources affected the 3, 4-dCBA degradation differently from that on chloride and cell mass production.
Nitrogen sources used increase the degradation activity of the 3, 4-dCBA as well as in the chlorine release from 3, 4-dCBA.
However, the casein show a slight enhancement of the biodegradation.
These cells were carbon starved for two periods ; 24h and 48h.
The 3, 4-dCBA degradation by non starved cells was more helpful than that of 24 h and 48 h starved cells.
optimum conditions were tested together to show the maximal biodegradation percentage, cell growth and there for Cl release.
The adaptation of Shigella sonnei cells was clearly shown to be crucial aspect for better degradation ability.
