English Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the factors that affect the adoption of electronic newspapers in Jordan.

The study tested the attributes of the theory of diffusion of innovation developed by Rogers (1995), which consists of five independent variables (relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability) and the dependent variable (adoption).

Several hypotheses were formulated and tested using SmartPLS to determine the interactions between factors.

The study was situated in Jordan, and the population comprised consumers who used electronic newspapers.

A survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire that was adapted to measure study variables based upon previous studies, and was distributed electronically to a convenience sample of consumers using electronic newspapers.

222 questionnaires were returned and were suitable for analysis.

The results showed that the constructs relative advantage, compatibility, trialability, and observability of electronic newspapers were all found to have a significant and positive impact on its rate of adoption, while complexity has a significant and negative impact on its rate of adoption.

The results also stated that Observability had the highest impact on adoption of electronic newspapers.

Trialability and compatibility were ranked second, followed by relative advantage.

Finally, complexity had the lowest impact on adoption of electronic newspapers.

Based on the study findings and conclusions, a number of implications and recommendations are suggested, and some future researches are proposed.
