Abstract EN

An efficient and highly selective method for the conversion of aldehydes to gemdiacetates is described using cellulose sulfuric acid as a bio-supported catalyst at room temperature under solvent-free conditions.

Mild reaction conditions, high yields of the products, easy procedure, short reaction time, insensitivity to air and moisture, stability, reusability and eco-friendly of the catalyst and selective acetylation of aldehydes in the presence of ketones are the main advantages of this procedure.

The catalyst could be recycled at least five times.
