Children and adolescent refugees and asylum seekers, especially if they are unaccompanied, have specific needs to ensure that their mental health is preserved.

Political reasons, war, religious factors, gender and sexual orientation may all play a role in creating ‘push’ factors for these individuals to migrate to other countries.

They have specific physical and mental health needs.

Policy makers need to get the right advice from psychiatrists who are also important in clinical assessment and management of these individuals.

Clinicians can play a significant role in caring for such a vulnerable group
