English Abstract

Modern Arabic literature is an interesting field, so many useful studies in modern Arabic literature have appeared in English such as Dr .al-Shush's and Dr.Abdul Hai's.

This thesis is an important contribution to the study of the subject, shedding light on the nature of Sudanese Arabic romanticism.

It provides an original and penetrating analysis of many different types of modern Arabic literature.

It illustrates the influence of western culture on modern Arabic literature as a whole and Sudanese Arabic literature in particular, by analyzing many verses of different poets. This study is to convey to the reader what knowledge and ideas have been established on this topic.

The researcher would like to show the similarities and differences between Sudanese Arabic literature and English literature, and to analyze the main factors and causes of that western influence as the establishment of Gordon Memorial College and its secular education and the great impact of the genius romantic poets like Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats and Shelly on the Sudanese romantic poets like Al-Mahjoub, Mohammed Ashry and Al-Ameen Ali Madani and their wide readings in English. The researcher uses a descriptive and comparative approach method to achieve the main purpose of the study. The methodology here is concerned with the analysis of Arabic and English romantic poems to prove that Al-Mahjoub is a romantic poet and critic by comparing his poems with the main English romantic poets.

Really, the western culture has a great impact on Al-Mahjoub because he is one of the graduates of Gordon Memorial College and he is a keen reader of English literature.
