English Abstract
Decision making in irrigation schemes is highly dependent on the availability of an accurate and reliable data.
Remote sensing and Geographic Information System Techniques can provide considerable part of such data.
GIS techniques were applied to convert the specified features in the satellite image of the project area to a georeferenced base map.
Eight layers were created using ArcGis to assemble the base map of the project area.
These layers contain natural and artificial features including all types of canals, railways, villages, towns and administrative divisions.
A database containing characteristics of engineering features and other related spatial and non spatial data was prepared and inserted in the system and linked to the base map.
The study output enables the decision makers to examine the base map easily and retrieve the data stored for direct uses and make further analysis to generate new information.
