English Abstract

In this research the existing situation of Steel Industry and Steelwork Construction in Sudan was studied in terms of the factors that affect the progress of this industry in Sudan.

The existing steel factories were studied by investigating the problems and expectations to push the industry ahead in order to cope with the new expansion of oil industry and infrastructure.

The research showed that Sudan has huge resources of iron ore in different parts of the country.

The exploitation of which is bound to the construction of infrastructure and provision of cheap power supply.

The existing production of steel is not proportional to the potential resources and is out of comparison if compared with the production in the neighboring countries like Egypt.

The input of the government is highly required in terms of legislations and attractive investment laws to encourage the international capital and advanced technology to this vital sector. The situation of the steel products market in the neighboring countries was investigated to show the possibility of marketing the excess quantities in case the local needs are satisfied. The research covered also the steel construction related activates like erection of steel structures, steel protection from both sides i.e.

fire protection and corrosion protection, contracts, and management of steel projects were covered also in the research.

Due to the fact that welding represent the key operation in joining steel members, it has been studied to explain the modern techniques used in fabricated members.

The research disclosed the need for training centers to graduate technicians and research centers to supply the market with skilled manpower and engineers.
