Abstract EN

A total of fifty-nine antibiotic microbial producers have been isolated from the soil, seven of them have shown activity against both Gram-positive and Gram–negative bacteria.

On the other hand, fifty-two isolates were only active against Gram–positive bacteria.

Of the 7 broad–spectrum antibiotic microbial producers, one isolate of high activity was chosen and has been involved throughout the work and subsequently identifyed as Streptomyces sp.

Attempts were made to improve the maximum yield of the antibiotic produced by this organism through the investigations of the optimum conditions affecting the antibiotic production.
