English Abstract

The research represents an attempt to investigate the difficulties.

that Libyan students encounter in forms and uses the English passive voice.

The research is based on the assumption that Libyan students may encounter difficulties in forms and uses the passive voice in English.

The subjects of the thesis are second year students of the English department at AL Mergeb University Faculty of Arts and Science, Messallatta Branch enrolled in a grammar course.

The data for this research include a written test for forty eight students.

The results of this research offer important implications for teaching the passive voice in English.

The study comprises of five chapters.

The first chapter is an introduction to the research.

It includes the problem, the aims, the significance, the scope, the hypothesis, and some definitions of terms.

The second chapter deals with the theoretical background of the study, and some related literature review.

The third chapter is the practical part of the study.

It focuses on the description of the test and the analysis of the students errors.

The fourth chapter consists of the results and findings of the study.

The last chapter offers some recommendations to overcome or at least to mitigate the difficulties which encounter Libyan students in forms and uses passive voice.
