English Abstract

Enuhud basin is located in West Kordofan State, Sudan.

It lies between latitudes 12o 27'- 130 15' N, and longitudes 28° 05'- 29' E, covers an area of about 6790 square kilometers.

The surrounding area is basement complex, the main sources for water supply is Enuhud basin.

In the study area the Precambrian basement complex, and Nubian sandstones formation of Mesozoic overlain by recent deposits are the main geological formation. The climate of Enuhud province is semi-arid, where the average annual rainfall amounts to 338 mm, falling in period from June to October.

The mean annual temperature is 31 Cº. The Nubian sandstones formation is the major aquifer of the basin, and the groundwater is held under slight artesian pressure .The depth to the water level ranges between (49- 132).

Meters below ground surface.

The thickness of the saturated strata varies between (50-300).

Meters. The aquifer parameters are such that the transmissivity varies between 210- 3970m2 / day, and the storage coefficient is in the order of 3.3*10-4.

The discharge from the wells is variable, dependent on the specifications of the wells, and may reach 1500 gallons/hour, from the wells of Enuhud town water yard.

The annual extraction of water from the basin is estimated to be about 3 millions cubic meters per year.

And the amount of the available recharge is about 30 millions cubic meters per year, and that can be used to supply the numerous villages in basement complex area by using water pipeline to alleviate the acute water supply problem.

The total amount of water stored in the basin is calculated to be in the order of 255.

Millions cubic meters, having total dissolved solids ranging between 110- 1850 parts per millions, yielding the suitable water for all domestic purposes. The groundwater of Enuhud basin is renewing annually by rainwater.
