Impact of shortfall in parking supply on the quality of traffic in Abu Dhabi C.B.D Area

Abstract EN

This research concerns with some remedial measures that can be applied in order to relieve and maximize the available number of parking spaces in the central area of big cities.

As results of high residential density and high vehicle car ownership, traffic congestion and long queues are developed especially during the peak periods in Abu- Dhabi (U.A.E capital).

Data collection on traffic volumes and associated parking demand were carried out for two heavily congested sectors within Abu-Dhabi C.B.D areas.

Analysis of data collected on traffic volumes and parking showed to which extent the problems are acute.

Some traffic management measures were implemented in order to relieve both congestion and parking shortfall in those two sectors.

Finally, number of remedial measures and related recommendations are mentioned in order to solve such problems which generally encountered on most heavily congested sectors in central area of Abu- Dhabi.
