English Abstract

The main objective of this study is to evaluate groundwater resource of the Bahari area, study hydrgeological conditions, general geological setting, aquifer hydraulic properties, water balance of Nubian aquifer and assess hydro chemical conditions.

The study area is bounded by latitudes 150 36- 00 and 150 56- 00 N and longitudes 320 32- 31 and 320 47- 10 E.

It covers about 725km2with mean annual precipitation about 150mm and elevation above mean sea level ranges from 378m to 414m with average of 384m. The study depended on filed observation.

Geological and topographic maps are among the tools used for describing and analyzing data.

Also of some wells drilled in the area.

Pumping test data is collected to estimate hydraulic aquifer parameters using relevant analytical methods. Static water level is interpolated based on measurement from existing wells.

The annual recharge of ground water is also estimated and water balance is established for the study area. Two aquifers were found in Sandstone of the Nubian Formation, the static water level ranges from few meters to more than 100m and the saturated thickness varies from few meters to more than 60m.

The average aquifer-saturated thickness is about 44m.

Groundwater movement within the Nubian aquifer showed different directions of flow and variable hydraulic gradient values. The aquifers are recharged from the Niles with annual recharge estimated to be 37,960,000 m3 / year.

Groundwater Storage is estimated to be 1,350,000,000 m3 and the change in Storage is about 10 x 106m3.
