English Abstract

This study investigates the students’ fluency of speaking English.

The researcher has noticed that their ability of spoken English is very weak; even English language university students have a serious problem in spoken English, and are slow in speaking.

The main question of this study is (to what extent does using language laboratory affect fluency among university student)? The subjects of this study are university students at the third level, from African International University and Omdurman Islamic University Faculty of Arts in the Academic year 2005-2006. This study is divided into five chapters : Chapter one is an introduction to the thesis in which the problem of the study is stated, objectives and hypothesis are put for investigations. In Chapter two the researcher reviews the theoretical background of the topics of speech fluency in foreign language and also the relevant issues.

At the end of chapter two the researcher reviews the literature related to the research problem. Chapter three is devoted to the method of the research, the data collecting-tool was the interview.

In order to measure student’s fluency, a comparison was made to the collected data. In Chapter four the results of the above mentioned interview were presented, analyzed and discussed.

Final results are stated.

The studied hypotheses are tested in the light of the results. Chapter five is the conclusion of the study, implications and recommendations are stated.

Finally the researcher suggests areas for further relevant researches. Final results and findings show that Sudanese university students who use language laboratory in learning English language are more fluent than those who study English language without language laboratories.
