English Abstract

Groundwater is the largest source of fresh water accessible on earth.

Effective methods and tools are now available for hydrogeological research and exploitation, and therefore for more understanding of groundwater.

Water wells are the hydraulic structures used for supplying water from the groundwater storage.

Therefore, the proper design and construction of water wells is very important and highly required in order to maximize the benefits from water wells. This research deals with the developing design and construction techniques of water wells in three locations in Sudan.

The first and second locations are in North Korrdofan State (Hydoub-Enihood) and West Korrdofan State (Samuaa Abyay).

Both wells are are tapping a deep confined and unconfined aquifer.

The third Location is in South Korrdofan State (Shangil Lagawa) where the well is tapping an unconfined aquifer of limited depth.

The optimum design and construction techniques will lead to reliable and sustainable water supply consistent with the needs of the people and the capabilities of the aquifer, suitable water quality that is free of sediments and contaminants, long expected life, less operating and maintenance costs, and ease of monitoring well performance.
