English Abstract
This research, aims at exploring the effectiveness of conceits in Metaphysical Poetry with a focus on what is written by John Donne, George Herbert and Andrew Marvell. The researcher traces the development of conceits before and throughout the 17th century.
However, the conceits are the most prominent features of Metaphysical Poetry which are used to convey various messages, express different emotions and attitudes.
Although they are used by a number of poets, John Donne is concerned to be the most influential among them.
The researcher, and due to the nature and complications of poetry, adopts the rational and the analytical approach.
The findings of the research show that, the 17th century conceits are very effective in conveying the implied love and religious massages.
