English Abstract

-A field experiment was conducted at Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Omdurman Islamic University, Sudan.

(Latitude 15o 34 N, longitude 32 o 34 E and altitude 393 meters above sea level), during 2006/ 2007 season, to investigate the effect of magnetized water on growth and yield of some sugar bet cultivars (Beta vulgaris L.).

The varieties used in this study were Juvena, Mashed and Valentina.

The design used was spilt- plot design, with four replications, in which the cultivars in the main plots and the magnetized water and non- magnetized water in the sub-plots.

The seeds were sown manually on the top of the ridges at the rate of tow seeds per hole.

The crop received equal amount of magnetized and non- magnetized water every10 -7 days.

The Nitrogen was applied at (129 kgN/ha) as urea (46%N) applied in spilt dose.

Phosphorous was applied at (48 kg P2O5/ ha) as super phosphate added at planting.

The growth attributes measured were emergence percentage, number of leaves, leaf area and leaf area index, shoot fresh and dry weight, root fresh and dry weight.

Reproductive attributes investigated were root yield biological yield, Pol percentage, sugar yield, moisture content and ash percentage. Regarding varieties the results showed that the use of magnetized water caused significant difference in number of leaves after 75 and 120 days, and in leaf area after 75 days from soming.

Biological yield and ash percentage at harvesting time. Water treatment reported negative results in all parameters under study.

On the other hand, the interaction between water and varieties showed a positive effect on root fresh weight after 75 days after sowing and pol percentage at harvesting time.

All varieties in this study done best performance under Khartoum state conditions, the best one was Valentina, followed by Mashed and Juvena.
