English Abstract

The optimal use of any renewable water resource cannot be easy without know the amount of input and output water of this resource, to make balance between supply and demand.

This research tackles about the water balance of Jebel Aulia reservoir in the zone between the dam and Malakal station, this water balance is very important for the good operation of the dam to cover all purpose (pump schemes operations levels, downstream discharge, level for hydropower plant, flood control In this study use the balance equation by Excel program to calculate the outflows from the dam and compare it with computed outflows calculated by the dam operation sector, The result showed that there is many different between the computed and actual values, this different is low in high flows period and variable in low flows period, this different means that the balance equation components are in less accurate (evaporation, diversion water, dam release, Malakal inflow) , also the negligible of the other equation component (seepage, direct rainfall, and runoff) may has an actual effect of the results, so that if this factors added to the balance equation the results may be more accurate.

Due to that the daily water balance cannot easily be performed in Jebel Aulia reservoir.

This can be attributed to several causes such as in certainties in the dam releases, the storage and it is changes, the inflows at Malakal and the evaporation computation, Also the computed diversion has quite a lot of in certainties.

Also the length of the used records (10years) is relatively short and cannot reflect the actual situation (use this 10 years only because the data available in this period is nearly completed than the other years).
