English Abstract
The main objective of this research is to detect the natural changes in Khartoum state using remote sensing techniques in the period of 1987-2000.
In this research time-series satellite images that included American Landsats 4 and 7, (TM & ETM+) which covered the time frame between ''1987'' to ''2000'', were used.
To achieve these objectives of these research bands 2, 4 and 5(which represent both the visible and thermal infrared wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum) were used.
These bands were processed and classified into four classes, water bodies, urban area, vegetated land and sand by using (ERDAS IMAGINE 8.5).
The results show that there's a land cover change in Khartoum state at that time, the rate of change in water was -0.39 %, in vegetation cover hit rate is 0.02 %, in urban areas the difference was up to 0.025 % and 0.24 % in sand.
The conclusion is that remote sensing techniques and digital images processing are powerful tools for land cover change detection.
