English Abstract

-This study was aimed to verify the effects of collection of blood samples after supine status, and also, the correction the results of serum calcium if the albumin level being below or above 40g/L.

These two protocols are used to avoid preanalatycal errors of serum total calcium results. To determine these objectives, total calcium levels were measured in serum of 104 males and 199 females in Khartoum state.

5 ml of blood were collected from the volunteers initially, and other 5 ml were collected from the volunteers after rest in supine for 30 minutes, and then their weight and height were measured to calculate the body max index.

The volunteers were classified as 101 healthy normal individuals, 102 known diabetic patients, and 100 known hypertensive patients.

Their serum were separated and analyzed for total calcium and albumin level using automated chemical analyzer. In comparing the total calcium levels between direct samples and supine for 30 minutes samples after correction with albumin, the results showed significant (p = 0.00) decreasing in the random samples.

While the results in the results of serum total calcium level after supine showed insignificant changes between corrected and non-corrected results with albumin equation especially in age of more than 61 years old, diabetic patients, and obese persons.
