English Abstract

This research attempts to study colonial discourse in African literature with special reference to Chinwa Achebe's Things Fall Apart، colonial discourse is refers to the literary works that were written by the African writers during the colonial period with special. Emphasis in Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart.

The study focuses on some special issues which are be relevant and worthy of the discussion.

The study provides an over view and background of African literature in addition to biography of the writer and it also includes a literary review and criticism of Achebe to underline his place in African literature.

Textual analysis of the novel is presented and the main characters are described and analyzed, and it also tackles the question of language including its use, the proverbs employed and a discussion of the role of women in the novel.

The major themes are also expounded.

The researcher believed that، the events in Things Fall Apart have been affected by the white man's arrival to the African land, things have been changed, a simple life is became a very complicated one.

African culture and African society are also been affected, the colonialism collected a new administration, a new values, a new religion by which some Africans are deeply impressed by the missionaries who arrived in this place of Africa, they converted to Christianity.

All these things contributed to "Things Fall A part".
