English Abstract

- God has given Libyan arap Jamahiriya a wealth of crude oil, so the petrochemical industries and oil refinery was constructed along of t Libyan coast.

The chromium species is one of the most important added catalysts during the refinery processing and petrochemical Productions .Chromium species may be reach ground water one way or other.

Chromium is present in two valences trivalent Chromium (non toxic) and hexavalent chromium (highly toxic).The biological effects of the two valences are markedly different.

Therefore, the determination of the levels of hexavalent chromium in ground water samples for the area adjacent to those plants (chemical and petrochemical industries) is important.

Two speciation methods were applied for chromium and subsequent determination the hexavalent in the samples.

Were collected from three different points (east, middle, west) for all differentpetrochemicalindustries.A.S.T.M.UV-VIS.

Spectrophotometeric method (D7196A) and atomic absorption (FAAS) method (D7195) were used for determination chromium in each sample.

The analysis were carried out at Ras Lanoff oil and gas petrochemical industries laboratories(Libyan),and national Research Center laboratories (Egypt).

The data obtained in this study are in accordance with the Libyan standards.

In comparison with EPA and WHO our data are high than the allowed limit.
