English Abstract

El Dilling town lies in the Northern region of South Kordofan State, which is located between latitude 10° 00 N - 12° 00 N and longitude 28° 00 E-32° 00 E.

The area is covered with basement rocks.

The main objective of this study is to assess the physical, chemical, and bacteriological quality of groundwater, and also evaluate the different groundwater types, and identify harmful mineral contents.

In general it is an evaluation of groundwater quality in the study area to enhance sustainability for domestic and irrigation purposes.

Water samples are collected from different hand pumps and sites in the study area, and subjected to physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis in order to identify if there is any pollution, and the concentration of the harmful mineral contents.

Accordingly, the dominating water types in summer season are bicarbonate–Magnesium–Sodium, while in autumn season the water types is Magnesium–Calcium–Sodium.

The results of the chemical analysis of groundwater are presented in different forms e.g.

(tables, maps, and diagrams) for proper study and interpretation.

Generally, according to the standards of WHO, (1995) and SSMO, (2002), the groundwater in autumn season 2001 and 2004 in study area is quite suitable for drinking, whereas in summer season 2005 in certain localities which contain high values of electrical conductivity especially El TOUROG borehole 2860 microhms /cm and EL MATAR borehole 2000 microhms /cm.

In addition to high concentration of TDS in EL TOUROG borehole 2002 mg / l.

There is bacteriological contamination in ETOUROG borehole and HAI EL MATAR.

The groundwater is fit for irrigation purposes except in EL TOUROG borehole due to high salinity.
