This paper examines the etymology and meaning of the concept ‘prostitution’ in Arabic.

It attempts to trace back the origins of prostitution which go back to slavery trade in the pre-Islamic era.

In specific, the study investigates the causes behind the spread of prostitution, including disrespect for women and the spread of bondmaids.

It also addresses types of prostitution in the market, tax on prostitution, and the most famous brothels of that time.

In addition the paper studies the attitudes of Arabs towards prostitution.

Finally, the research discusses the most important findings of this papers.
