Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This work presents a novel design for basin-type double-slope solar still.
The new design involved an evenly perforated basin plate.
The water level over the plate was adjusted and regulated by continuous feeding through a novel mechanism.
Experimental and theoretical studies were carried out to examine the still’s daily performance.
Hourly measurements of solar radiation, ambient temperature, wind speed, water and glass temperatures as well as production rate were recorded throughout the day.
The advantages of thin water film formation and continuous operation of the new design had enhanced the overall performance.
More energy utilization was achieved by decreasing the water film thickness.
The productivity and efficiency of the new design showed an apparent enhancement in comparison with the simple-type single-slope solar still.
An average daily efficiency of ~40% was observed and that included a 30% enhancement in comparison with that of a simple-type single-slope solar still.
Simulation results showed good comparison between experimental observations and predicted values.
