تم تجميع السرطان الأزرق ذو القيمة الاقتصادية في الفترة الواقعة ما بين شهر نوفمبر لعام 1997 إلى شهر أكتوبر لعام 1998 و ذلك في المنطقة الساحلية التي تقع بين حدي المد و الجزر على طول سواحل مدينة ثول التي تقع تقريبا على بعد 100 كيلومتر شمال مدينة جدة.
و ذلك القرب من القاعدة البحرية.
و في هذه الدراسة تم وصف التطور الجنيني في مراحله المختلفة داخل مبايض الإناث و خصى الذكور و بالرغم من وجود الإناث الحاملة للبيض على مدار شهور العام إلا أن هناك ذروتين واضحتين لفقس البيض إحداها في شهر أبريل و الذروة الأخرى في شهر أغسطس.
و خصوبة الإناث مرتفعة و تتناسب طرديا مع حجم الإناث و يتراوح عدد البيض الذي تحمله الأنثى ما بين 78000 إلى 220000 بيضة.
Abstract EN
-Collection of the commercial blue crab Portunus pelag- icus, were made in the intertidal shallow water, along the sandy shores of Twal city 100 km north of Jeddah, in the vicinity of the naval base, from November 1997 to October 1998.
The gross histology of ovary and testis development are described.
Though berried females were found throughout the whole year, two main spawning periods exist mainly one in April and the other in August.
Number of eggs carried by ovigerous females increase with size ranging from about 87,000 to about 220,000Æ
