English Abstract

This research is a study by which the researcher was trying to state comparatively the characteristics of ELT situations.

In Saudi Arabia and Sudan, where the researcher worked as a supervisor in both countries; aiming to see supervion's effectiveness in improving the educational process in general and English language teaching in particular. The researcher hope to help supervisors in both countries by providing some practical ideas directly drawn from the field.

He also hope to help English Language teachers, curriculum and policy makers to lead the educational process up to the best quality that every one is aspiring for. According to the researcher's experience in both countries, he noticed that supervision in Saudi Arabia plays an essential role in the educational process in general and in teaching English in particular, whereas it doesn't in the Sudan, as it's largely neglected.

It is an effective factor in the educational development in Saudi Arabia, where this isn’t the case in the Sudan. The researcher starts by stating the objectives, the hypotheses and the significance of the study in Chapter One.

Then he went on to investigate the theoretical aspects in chapter two.

Where he covered the topic with wide reading from first hand references in the library and update data from the internet.

Chapter Two highlights the educational supervision as it should be.

In Chapter Three the researcher explained the methodology used in the data collection, population and sampling, questionnaire designing, and validation of questionnaire and the procedure of the field study.

In Chapter Four the data has been tabulated, analyzed and interpretation of results were made.

Finally, in Chapter Five the conclusion, findings, recommendations and the suggestions. According to the results of the questionnaire, teachers and supervisors in both countries agree with the effectiveness of supervision in both countries, but the results clearly show there is a statistical difference in favor of supervision in Saudi Arabia.

Teachers and supervisors both think that, supervisors alone can not help teachers to improve their academic standards as much as they can do for their performance ; so, in Chapter Five some points are recommended concerning remedial work as well as suggesting further ideas for investigations in this field of supervision particularly in Sudan.
