Abstract AR
Abstract EN
The study was conducted to determine the infection rate of Entamoeba histolytica / dispar among children aged less than 5 years and to assess the risk factors that might contribute to the development of infection.
Wet mount preparation, formalin-ether concentration technique, iodine and trichome stains were used for recovery and identification of parasites.
E.
histolytica / dispar were observed in 64 (10.7 %) stool specimens examined.
The infection rate was highest in the age group 25-36 months and accompanied with varied symptoms; it was also higher in male than females.
The Statistical significant association with developing of infection were recorded with residency in rural area, low family income, high family size, low mother education.
Non-municipal drinking water is suspected to be the major potential source of infection.
Malnutrition is considered risk factors for acquisition of Amebiasis.
The importance of the risk factors and the epidemiological aspects contributing to the transmission in these areas were discussed.
