Abstract EN

’Dallas’ Cut roses were placed in distilled water under three different light intensities of 90, 225 or 300 µmole m2 s1 provided by cool-white fluorescent lamps for 12 hours per day.

Results showed that better cut rose stem water balance (where; less water uptake and loss) and leaf and flower head water potential were associated with low light intensities.

Cut roses placed under low light intensity of 90 µmole m2 s1 had longer vase life than those placed under either medium or high light intensity.

However, weight gains and flower head diameters of low and medium light intensity treated cut roses were similar, and both were better than those of high light intensity cut roses.
