Abstract EN

The occurrence of gingival recession was investigated in adults by age and gender and in relation to their dental attendance and frequency of tooth brushing in the adult population aged (30–70) years in Mosul City.

A sample of (1270) subject [719 males (56.6%) and 551 females (43.4%)] are collected randomly from different eight factories, seven primary schools, eight secondary schools and five colleges from Mosul City.

According to age, the sample was divided into four age groups (30–39, 40–49, 50–59 and 60–69 years).

The results of the study revealed that the percentages of the subjects with gingival recession for males were (35.6%), (58.8%), (94.7%) and (100%); and for females were (10.6%), (77.2%), (95.7%) and (100%) at the age groups (30–39), (40–49), (50–59) and (60– 69) years respectively.

The study showed that the mean number of teeth per person with gingival recession was (2.45) for age group (30–39) years and increased with age significantly to (14.48) for age group (50–59) years.

The total females reported lower significant (5.88) affected teeth by recession than males (9.93).

The study revealed that the mean of the tooth surfaces per person affected with gingival recession was (3.79) for age group (30–39) years and increase significantly with age to (29.65) surface for age group (50–59) years.

The total males reported high significant mean (19.73) surface affected by recession than females (10.47).

The study demonstrated that the frequency of tooth brushing has a positive effect on the prevalence of gingival recession; while for the relation to the dental attendance, the regular and irregular dental attendance has similar prevalence of gingival recession.
