Abstract EN
In this study different concentrations of zinc, copper, strontium and lithium ions were tested for their ability to prevent adherence of mutans streptococci in vitro.
A model of a tooth held by a stainless wire and inserted in sucrose broth was used.
After seven days of incubation results showed that copper ion at conc.
10, 50, and 100 mmol / L were effective in prevention of adherence of bacteria when used for one minute.
While Zinc ions at conc.
of 7.5 and 10 mmol / L required 2 minutes to be effective and one minute at conc.
25 and 50 mmol / L.
Lithium at conc.
of 600, 800 and 1000 mmol / L were effective when used for two minutes.
The only strontium were not able to prevent adherence at all conc.
Tested (100, 250 and 400 mmol / L) for one or two minutes treatment periods.
