Arabic Abstract

تقليديا تمثل مهمة تنمية المجموعات المهمة الأساسية و الهدف الرئيسي للمكتبات و مراكز المعلومات بغرض الاستجابة لاحتياجات المستفيدين و ربطهم بالمعارف المتجددة.

و هم بذلك يسعون نحو تأهيل أنفسهم للتجاوب مع الاحتياجات و المهارات المتجددة.

و اليوم تسعى معظم المكتبات و مؤسسات المعلومات بالتحول من الشراء الورقي للمصادر إلى الاشتراك الرقمي بها من ناحية, و من ناحية أخرى مواجهة عقبات رقمنة المصادر المحلية المتوفرة لديها.

و حيث أن مهنتهم الأساسية مرتبطة باحتياجات المستفيدين و سوق المعرفة المتسارع بالتغيير, كان عليهم إعادة النظر باستمرار إلى تحسين جينات جاهزيتهم للتتوالف مع جينات بيئة المعرفة الرقمية و زبائنها.

و من هنا تسعى الدراسة كخطوة أولى نحو فتح الحوار مع المهنيين الذين أظهروا رغبتهم بالمشاركة ضمن مجموعة نقاش عبر الفيسبوك.

تهدف هذه الخطوة الكشف عن جينات جاهزيتهم و مطابقتها مع جينات بيئة المعلومات الرقمية.

كما سعت الدراسة أيضا الكشف عن جينات جاهزية المستفيدين الشباب للاستفادة من بيئة المعلومات الرقمية ليكونوا مواطنين رقميين و ذلك بقياس درجة تأثير استخدام الإنترنت على العوامل المؤثرة على جاهزيتهم من النحاية الاجتماعية و النفسية و التعليمية سعيا نحو تسخير مهاراتهم لأداء أفضل و استثمار أثري. و لقياس جاهزة المستفيدين, تم توزيع 237 استبانة على طلاب الثانوية العامة من ذالكور و الإناث في مدينة مسقط بسلطنة عمان. استخدم المنهج النوعي و المنهج التحليلي الوصفي حسب مطابقتها لنوع البيانات الخاضعة للتحليل.

كما اعتمدت الحزمة الإحصائية SPSS في التحليل الوصفي باستخدام التكرارات و النسب و اختبارات الترابط و مربع كاي لاختبار العلاقات المعنوية بين المتغيرات في قياس جاهزية المستفيدين.

توصلت النتائج الأولية للتحليل عن توفر الرغبة لدى المهنيين في التحول نحو البيئة الرقمية و لكن يعوزهم المحفز المعنوي و المادي لرفع جاهزيتهم و بما يتناسب و احتياجات البيئة الرقمية من مؤهلات و تدريب.

كما أظهرت نتائج الشباب عن توفر المهارة التقنية و لكنها مستثمرة في التواصل الاجتماعي و التطبيقات العامة و عليه فإن جاهزيتهم بحاجة إلى توجيه لاستثمارها في التعليم و تحسين الأداء سواء بالنسبة للذكور أو الإناث.

English Abstract

Librarians have always collected resources to support the users’ needs and expectations.

They, professionally, prepared themselves to think and act traditionally, so that they can reach the users, communicate with them and even evaluate their satisfaction in regards to their performance.

As their work is strongly linked to users and information environment and heavily restricted by changes surrounded that environment, the traditional practice becomes less effective.

Thus, the community of information should keep reforming and altering its thinking and actions for better involvement and survival.

This study aims at initiating discussion among librarians to explore their readiness DNA as related to the current digital information environment DNA.

This investigation is visualized as the first act ; the second act is to explore the young users’ readiness DNA to be digital information customers, so that they will achieve better investment of information and improve their social and learning performance.

Two procedural methodologies were utilized for data collection.

The Facebook as a social networking media for creating the focus group that was applied.

Twenty librarians from several academic libraries and resource learning centers in the Sultanate of Oman agreed to participate in the extensive discussion, to define their current thinking towards their readiness DNA and to be involved in the digital information environment.

Qualitative analysis was applied to analyze the participants’ responses which reflect the level of their professional readiness DNA.

To explore the young information users’ readiness DNA, a questionnaire was mailed to 237 students from high schools in Muscat / the Sultanate of Oman, considering them as digital information customers of the digital information environment.

Quantitative analysis was applied to define users’ readiness DNA by measuring the extent impact of the digital environment (with use of the Internet) on their readiness from the learning competency code, social code, and psychological code.

The study concluded that librarians possess the willingness to be information professionals and play an active role in the digital information environments if they gain more training and rehabilitation opportunities from their organizations to upgrade their readiness DNA.

They realize also that users are positively directed towards the use of variable technologies, but their most utilization is for general purposes and social communication.

Thus, they need more guidance setting and orientation programs to enlarge their readiness DNA to be equipped in expressing their needs and accessing the information made available digitally through their libraries.

Based on the results, the study recommends that information professionals need to be involved in the organizational strategies and policies to update their readiness DNA and to fit their thinking and actions to match with the overall organization DNA.

They should be motivated to take in all available incentives and career opportunities that inspire them to act and achieve.

Incentives will promote them to align their readiness DNA with the organization DNA.

On the other hand, users need to be directed towards better investment of their IT skills.

Thus, they will not be addicted to use the internet for only social purposes, but to get their readiness DNA correlated with the digital environment DNA, more behavioral and systematic orientation is required.
