Abstract EN

Composite steelfloordecksareusedinalargevarietyofconstructionswithlongspans, such asadministrationandcommercialbuildings, hotelsandbridges.Duetodecreasedfloormass and longerspanlengths, floorvibrationshavebecomeanareaofconcern.Floordeckswithlow frequencies maybeinresonancewiththevibrationsduetohumanactivitiesandtheresultingaccel- eration mayexceedhumancomfortlevels.Thedesignofslenderfloorstructures,withsteelorcom- posite crosssections, isoftenlimitedbytheserviceabilitycriteriasuchasdeflectionlimitsand vibration behavior,ratherthanthestrengthcriteria.ControlofdeflectionsunderAISCspecifica- tions requirementisnotenoughtosatisfytheserviceabilityrequirementsofthefloorsystemsfor vibration.

Inaddition,vibrationanalysisproceduresintroducedbyAISCdesignGuideNo.11 are basedonregularly-shapedstructuresandsimpleboundaryconditions.Inthispaper,acase study forfullscaletestingofacompositefloorsystemproposedforatoweratKuwaitstatethat was testedpriortoconstruction.Theheel-dropandwalkingtestsareperformedonfloorsystems with andwithoutraisedfloorrespectively.Sinceheel-dropandwalkingtestresultswouldvaryin light ofpersonperformance,bothtestsarecarriedoutthreeorfourtimestoreduceuncertainty.

The fundamentalfrequenciesanddampingratioofthefloorsystemaremeasured.Comparison of theexperimentalresultswithresultsbasedontheAISChandcalculationsshowsthatthereis no significantdifference;thereforetheresultsbasedonAISCaregenerallyacceptable
