Abstract EN

To study the problem of boron deficicncy on sugar beet, a field experiment was conducted at Mama govemoratc during the 1997/98 and 1998/99 growing seasons.

Boron treatments included, one soil application incorporated before planting (1.2 Kg B/ha as borax), many foliar applications (1.05 Kg B/ha as boric acid) and a non-treated control.

Results showed that boron application decreased significantly the rate of heart rot and improved sugar yield due to increase in sugar content in the root and juice purity.

Boron application raised the amount of sugar (white sugar) by 6.52-7.05% in the first year and by over 16% in the sccond year in comparison with control.
