Arabic Abstract

يتعين على المكتبات شأنها في ذلك شأن أي مؤسسة أن تحدد الأفضل لمستفيديها و أن تخاطبهم بلغتهم و أن تكون إيجابية في ردها و أن تكف عن تجميع المعلومات عديمة الجدوى و أن تتجاهل الأنماط القديمة و أن تستفيد من الأوضاع الصعبة كالأزمات المالية و أن تكون متعاونة و ماهرة في أدائها و أن تتوقف عن السعي إلى إنجاز جميع الأعمال على أكمل وجه و أن تغير ما بذاتها قبل أن تتوقف أقسامها عن العمل بشكل جيد.

إن الانتشار السريع لخدمات شبكات المعلومات بالتوازي مع التأكيد المتنامي على ضمان الجودة من أهم المشاكل التي تواجهها المكتبات الجامعية.

فبينما يعكس التخطيط الاستراتيجي في المكتبات الجامعية مقاربة أكثر تركيزا على المستفيدين يفترض بالأساس من خلال مجمل هذا التخطيط أن المكتبات الجامعية لا تزال متشبثة بدورها الأصلي و بأن التطوير المطرد للخدمات الحالية سوف يفضي إلى مزيد إرضاء المستفيدين.

غير أنه يتحتم على المكتبات أن تسعى إلى تلبية احتياجات المستفيدين من خلال تحوير جذري و غير تدريجي مثل استرجاع المعلومات و تسليم الوثائق.

كما يتعين عليها أن تبذل قصارى جهدها لتعزيز مهارتها في مجال إدارة المعرفة.

و سوف يركز الجزء الأول من هذه الدراسة على مفهوم إدارة المعرفة و على المقاربات الخاصة بإدارة مناهج المعرفة و كذلك على علاقتها بالمكتبات و مدى مطابقتها لها.

و يهتم الجزء الثاني بحاجة المكتبات إلى إعادة هندسة طرق عملها كما يستعرض مناهج و نماذج ناجحة في هذا المجال.

English Abstract

Libraries, like any organization, should learn what’s best for their clients and to speak their language, to say yes, to stop collecting unnecessary data, to ignore old rules, to take advantage of adverse situations such as budget crises, to work collaboratively, to work smart, to stop trying to do everything perfectly, and to change before the library services stop working hard.

The rapid expansion of networked information services, together with increased emphasis on quality assurance are some interesting problems for academic libraries.

While strategic planning in academic libraries now reflects a more customer- focused approach, the principal assumption behind most of this planning is that academic libraries are stili firmly in the right business and that continuous improvement of existing practices will lead to greater customer satisfaction.

However, libraries today should strive to meet the needs of their clients by radically, rather than gradually, changing core processes, such as information retrieval and document delivery services.

They should also do their best to enhance their knowledge management techniques.

The first part of this talk will focus on the concept of knowledge management and knowledge management approaches as well as their relevance and application to libraries.

The second part will emphasize the need for libraries to reengineer their business processes, methods of business process reengineering (BPR) and successful examples of BPR in libraries.
