Abstract EN

This research deals with the emergence of ideal and physical attractiveness of Arab women in old novels and poems of the pre-Islamic age.

This phenomenon has literary, artistic, social and religious interpretations that might have been of interest to many poets and novelists as well.

The researcher attempts to detect the standards poets and prose writers used when describing the beauty of the woman in order to formulate a general model that characterized such beauty or attractiveness.

Understanding this model might help to reinforce Arab values of beauty in modern and recent world fashions and competitions between Misses.

The formulated structure of old Arab thought which was inherited as cultural genes, can be realized through understanding the general philosophy and standards of beauty the Arabs believed in.

Old Arabs viewed general beauty standards of animals such as horses, camels and hunting dogs.

These were harmonic with beauty standards in women like: high stature, density of hair, width of eyes, brightness of face, atrophy groins, softness of skin, emergence of the genitals, consistency of organs and magnitude of the buttocks.

Such standards were clearly mentioned in old resource books and references like: Al – Aghani by Al – Asphhani، Al – Aqed Al –Fareed by Ibn Abed Rabuh، Proverbs Book by Al- Maidani ,Old poetry books.
