The essential oil of eastern Moroccan rosmarinus officinalis : chemical composition , in-vitro antimicrobial and antioxydant activities

Chemical composition of volatile compounds obtained from hydrodistillation of the Rosmarinus officinallis in Eastern Morocco was analysed by GC-MS.

Twenty components were identified in the oils.

The major components were1, 8-Cineole (53.05 %) followed by Comphor (11.56 %), _-Phellandrene (6.23 %), cis-Ocimene (5.76 %), _- Terpineol (5.52 %) and_-Santoline alcohol (3.32 %).

The extracted oil was tested against 19 Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

It was found that the oil from rosemary exhibited an interesting antibacterial activity.

In the other hand the essential oils investigated, exhibited good antioxidant activity as measurements by DPPH free radical-scavenging ability.
