Wages and Incentives have always been central tenants in the appraisal of any administrative system, Islamic or Western, they provide a clear understanding of the question of motivation and the methods used for achieving results through people.

This poses important questions pertaining to the impact of wages and incentives on performance, such as does the Islamic wage and incentive system differ from the Western System? If the answer is “Yes” in what regards? What are the issues raised and questions asked in each School? Where do they converge or diverge? What is the model of man articulated by each school? What are the epistemological grounds for each system and in what way do they differ? The paper attempts to answer these questions by shedding light on the wage theory in Islam, its basic assumptions and underlying philosophy.

It attempts to explain the relation between wage and incentives and job performance by underscoring the importance of faith (Agida), recognition (Ietibar) and, brotherhood (Muakhah).

The Islamic and Western schools are compared with regard to the model of man embraced and values maximized.

Here the western economic theory of wage is highlighted in relation to the classical economic and management theories.

The human relation and behavioral schools are discussed in brief and a concluding statement is made to put the question “Which way is our administrative theory?” under focus
