Abstract EN

We have developed a computer model based on coupled rate equations for studying collisions! energy transfer in hi§hly-excited Ca atoms.

Initially a specific atomic state is assumed to have been prepared through step-wise resonant pulsed laser excitations.

The absorbed energy is subsequently redistr!buted through various collisional and radiative the rate constants for collisions of highly-excited ٨؛ processes.

We are particularly interested Ca atoms with Ar atoms, which result in population transfer to some nearby states of Ca.

The instantaneous population densities of various excited states are calculated and time profiles of fluorescence intensities are constructed.

These are compared with the experimentally ned؛observed fluorescence intensities.

The rateconstants for ^•-supported collisions are d€،enn ,which give good agreement between the computed and the experimental intensities
