Abstract EN
Recently, some electrochemical approaches have been developed as repair methods for reinforced concrete structures deteriorated by carbonation of concrete, or chloride corrosion of steel bar reinforcement.
Desalination is an electrochemical method aimed at removing chlorides from reinforced concrete structures.
However, it is impossible to extract all of the chlorides contained in concrete.
For this reason, it is important to investigate the behavior of chlorides remaining after treatment.
Furthermore, if the pore structure of concrete was affected by the dense electric current, permeability of concrete for corrosive substances might be changed.
In this study, migration and redistribution of Cl~ (total chlorides and soluble chlorides), Na+, and K+ was examined after applying desalination.
Secondly, the change in half cell potentials was measured.
Furthermore, the influence of passing current on Cl~ and C02 permeability of concrete was examined.
The results showed that significant redistribution of CI' (total chlorides and soluble chlorides) was not observed during 16 weeks after desalination.
Moreover, no negative influence of the treatment on Cl~ and C02 permeability of concrete was observed.
