Monitoring of radioactive chemical waste in the aquatic environment of wadi hanifea , south of Riyadh city

Measurements of artificial y-ray emitting radionuclides in the waters ofWadi Hanifa ،؛south of Riyadh city, were carried out in order to trace their releases into its aquat ؛environment.

The exacted releases of these radionuclides arose from ،heir applicatio in medicine, industry, and research wor^ by various institutions in the capita، city they may have been disposed of into the domestic sewage system to find their way t< the wadi.

Repeated and regular measurements were carried out once every month fo eight months in different locations across the wadi.

Measurements have been carrie، ؛out using a hyper-pure high-resolution germanium ■/-spectrometer.

Considerabl amounts of '25I and 131I were recorded.

Trace amounts of '”Cs were also detected The data are discussed and some recommendations for farther investigations are given
