Estimation of the percentage of sterile couples in Oman

Infertility (sterility) in general is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse.

Due to the sensitivity of this issue, direct estimation of the proportion of infertile couples is not easy.

Based on the number of childless couples in a population, and an approximate family size distribution, this proportion can be indirectly approximated.

The aim of this paper is to approximate indirectly the proportion of infertile (sterile) couples in Oman based on the results of the general census of 1993.

It turned out that the proportion of childless sterile families in Oman can be approximated by (6%).

About 24% of all childless couples are of the fertile type, while about 76% are of the sterile type.
