Abstract AR
Abstract EN
In this study, 90 young adult males, 47 physically active and 43 physically inactive (sedentary), were included to examine the hypothesis that regular physical activity causes earlier beneficial changes in lipid profile and also some physiological parameters.
Physically active subjects showed significantly lower body mass index, basal energy expenditure, diastolic blood pressure (P < 0.01) and systolic blood pressure (P < 0.05) compared to sedentary subjects.
The number of cigarette smokers among physically inactive males was significantly higher in comparison to active ones (P < 0.05).
Triglyceride serum concentration, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol/high density lipoprotein-cholesterol ratio (P < 0.05) and total cholesterol/high density lipoprotein-cholesterol ratio (P< 0.01) were significantly lower among physically active group compared to the inactive one, whereas high density lipoprote in-cholesterol serum concentration (P < 0.01) was significantly higher among physically active compared to sedentary subjects.
Total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein- cholesterol serum concentration showed no significant differences between the two groups(P > 0.05).
